Testaccio

El barrio de Testaccio se encuentra al sur del centro de Roma, aún dentro de la muralla Aureliana. A pesar de su ubicación privilegiada es un barrio popular con un espíritu romano en estado puro. Feudo de la Roma AS y de gente de clase trabajadora, este barrio está tomando las riendas como escenario de las manifestaciones artísticas más actuales ya que en él se encuentra una de las sedes del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Roma Macro Testaccio. Sus calles representan la Roma más genuina, contradictoria: decadente pero alegre, tranquilo pero lleno de vida… Podemos disfrutar por sus calles de paseos tipográficos fijándonos en los viejos letreros de los comercios o deleitarnos con monumentos históricos como la pirámide Cestia o el monte di cocci.

Testaccio is located in the south of the center of Rome, even inside the Aurelian walls. Despite its location it's a popular neighborhood with a pure Roman spirit. Feud of AS Roma and working class people, this neighborhood is taking the reins as the scene of the latest artistic expression as it is one of the venues of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome Macro Testaccio  Its streets are the most genuine Rome, contradictory: decadent but happy, calm but full of life ... We can enjoy by looking through the streets of the old typographical signs from shops or delight with historical monuments like the Pyramid of Cestius or Monte di cocci.

Il serpentone (Corviale)

Oficialmente llamado Nuovo Corviale, este edificio es conocido por los romanos como il serpentone o il kilometro, porque es la distancia real de su longitud total.

Es un edificio de viviendas sociales situado cerca de la via Portuense bastante alejado del centro. Fue construido durante il boom edilizio (en el año 1972) por el arquitecto Mario Fiorentino y tiene un total de 1.200 viviendas, lo que constituye a este edificio casi como un barrio.

En la actualidad, lejos de la idea de su creador, el edificio está en una situación de degrado que las el comune de Roma está intentando mejorar.

Officially called Nuovo Corviale, this building is known by the Romans as il serpentone or the kilometer, its total length. 

It's a social housing building located near the via Portuense, but too far away from the city center. It was built during il boom edilizio (in 1972) by architect Mario Fiorentino and has a total of 1,200 homes, which is this building almost like a neighborhood. 

Today, far from the idea of its creator, the building is in a state of degradation that the comune of Rome is trying to improve.

Monteverde Vecchio

 

     

Este barrio situado en la parte occidental de Roma queda lejos del circuito turístico a pesar de prácticamente confundirse con la parte alta del Trastevere. Es curioso el contraste su zona alta y su zona baja. En la parte alta -la más cercana al Gianicolo- hay más vegetación y los edificios tienen un aspecto más señorial, pero conforme se desciende por la colina hacia el sur en dirección opuesta a su gran joya (el parque de Villa Pamphili) nos encontramos con su parte baja donde los bloques de viviendas pasan a ser más humildes y sustituyen a la frondosa vegetación de la parte alta.

En este barrio se encuentra el gran mirador de Roma, el Gianicolo pero también es el barrio donde vivió el director de cine italiano Pier Paolo Pasolini y donde escribió una novela ambientada en él: Ragazzi di vita.

El día que lo recorrí era un día gris y lluvioso. No se si por esta razón o por un guiño a las películas de Pasolini he puesto las fotos en blanco y negro.

Monteverde Vecchio

This neighborhood located in the western part of Rome is not very touristy, despite being near the Trastevere. It is curious to contrast the upper and lower area. At the top -the closest part to Gianicolo- there is more vegetation and buildings have a more stately appearance, but as you go down the hill to the south opposite to its real gem (the park of Villa Pamphili) you find its lower part where the apartment blocks become more humble and replace the lush vegetation of the upper side.

This neighborhood is the best viewpoint of Rome, the Gianicolo, but also the neighborhood where lived the Italian film director Pier Paolo Pasolini and where he wrote Ragazzi di vita, a novel set in Monteverde. 

The day I did my route was gray and rainy. I don't know if for this reason or for a tribute to the films of Pasolini I have put the photos in black and white.
